The central register of beneficial owners was put in place to improve corporate trust and transparency in Ireland and the EU. The main aim of the register is to deter money laundering and terrorist financing and to help sanction those who attempt to hide beneficial owners of legal entities for the purpose of illegal activity. The regulations came into effect 22 March 2019. Companies need to have submissions completed by 22nd November 2019.
Failure to act on the registration or comply with the requirements is a breach of statutory duty and a criminal offence.

Who is Responsible?
It is the responsibility of the officers of the company to ensure that the compliance for the Register Of Beneficial Owners is met. The registration must be made within 5 months of the date of incorporation of the company.
